Policy SIL-006

THE SILENCE POLICY

This document governs silence at Screamr: the company’s, the employee’s, and yours. It is binding on all three parties and was negotiated with none of them.

1. Scope and application

1.1 This policy applies to every employee, contractor, advisor, and vendor of Screamr, Inc., to every scream held on the platform, and to the intervals between them.

1.2 It applies inside the building, outside the building, and on Fridays, when there is no building available.

1.3 It applies identically across the Free, Screamium, and Enterprise tiers. Silence is not a paid feature. All tiers receive all of it.

1.4 Where this policy conflicts with another Screamr policy, this one is quieter and therefore controls.

2. Defined terms

The following terms carry the meanings set out below wherever they appear in company documentation, employment agreements, support correspondence, or conversation. No other meanings are recognized.

“Silence”
The absence of a scream, and also the presence of a scream that no one has attended to. The second kind is the kind we sell.
“Scream”
Any audio submitted through the record button, of any duration up to the applicable ceiling, regardless of content. A submission containing no sound is still a scream and is stored as one.
“Listening”
The routing of a held scream to a human ear, in whole or in part, at any speed, in either direction, intentionally or otherwise. Intent is not an element.
“Description”
Any account of a scream given in words, gestures, imitation, or drawing. Description is treated as listening that has already spread.
“Discussion”
Two or more people describing the same scream. Discussion is the most serious of the three defined acts and is reportable within one hour.
“An employee who has heard something”
Any employee who cannot state, without pausing, that they have not. Uncertainty resolves against the employee.

3. Obligations of the Company

3.1 The Company will not listen to a scream. The zero-listen architecture makes this obligation straightforward to keep. This policy exists for the days when it would not be.

3.2 No person at the Company will describe, summarize, characterize, rank, or excerpt a scream. The public wall does all five, unattended, from machine transcripts, and is not a person.

3.3 The Company will not discuss a scream internally. Screams may be counted, measured, fingerprinted, and moved between arrays. They may not be mentioned.

3.4 The Company will not notify you when a decision about your scream is made, reversed, or made again.

3.5 Nothing in this section limits the Company’s judgment about what a scream becomes. Not listening has never been an obstacle to deciding.

4. Obligations of employees

4.1 Every employee is hired against a standard of not listening and is evaluated against it annually. The evaluation consists of one question: “Have you heard anything?” The answer is recorded, not assessed.

4.2 Headphones issued by the Company are not to be connected. This applies to the Scream Archivist specifically, whose desk is beside the storage array, and to all staff generally.

4.3 An employee who becomes curious about a scream notifies their manager the same day. Curiosity is not misconduct. It is a condition, it is escalated to the board at the next available meeting, and it is treated.

4.4 Employees may not build, specify, request, or sketch a playback feature. Sketches are collected at the end of the day and are not returned.

4.5 Employees who leave the Company remain bound by this policy in perpetuity, or until they can demonstrate that they have forgotten.

5. Incidental exposure

5.1 Incidental exposure occurs when a held scream reaches an employee’s ear without intent. It is rare. It has occurred once.

5.2 On exposure the employee stops work immediately, does not speak, and does not write down what they heard. Recollection is not evidence and will not be collected.

5.3 Within one hour the employee files Form S-7, “Notice of Having Heard Something.” The form has one field, the duration in seconds. There is no field for content and one will not be added.

5.4 Form S-7 is submitted to the queue. It is the same queue as the scream.

5.5 The employee is then placed on quiet leave for five business days. Quiet leave is paid, is served at home, involves no company communication of any kind, and ends when the employee is contacted.

5.6 The exposure is entered in the employee’s file as a number. The Company does not retain which scream it was, and the employee is not told.

6. Silent Fridays

6.1 Friday is a silent day. It is a policy. It appears under benefits on the careers page for recruiting reasons.

6.2 From 6:00 p.m. Thursday to 8:00 a.m. Monday the building is locked and Slack is disabled. Badges do not open the doors during this window. This is not a fault and should not be reported as one.

6.3 Screams continue to arrive on Fridays. Ingest is unattended by design, and Friday remains our highest intake day by a margin we have stopped investigating.

6.4 No employee is on call on a Friday. A scream cannot go wrong.

6.5 Work performed on a Friday is not counted toward any review. Employees who find they cannot stop are referred to Section 4.3.

7. Rights of the user

7.1 You have the right to scream. That right is exercised three times a month on the Free tier and without limit on Screamium. The rights that follow are the complete set of everything else.

Right of access
The Company will not play your scream back to you. If it is public it is on the wall, where you may press play alongside everyone else.
Right of rectification
Screams are final on release. There is no draft state and no preview. A second scream is a second scream, not a correction of the first.
Right of erasure
You may request deletion. The request is added to the same queue as the scream.
Right to an explanation
You may ask what your scream became. The Company will confirm receipt of the question.
Right to portability
You may export a picture of your scream at any time, at print resolution on Screamium. The scream itself stays here.
Right to be forgotten
Granted in full and at once. You are forgotten at intake. The scream is not.

7.2 Rights not listed above have not been withheld. They have not been created.

8. Exceptions

8.1 There are no exceptions to Section 3.

8.2 Requests for an exception are accepted in writing and are not acknowledged. The absence of an acknowledgment is the response.

8.3 Lawful requests from a court or a regulator are honored in full and without delay. We produce the waveform.

8.4 The Company reserves the right to decide what a scream becomes. That decision is not an exception to this policy. It is the reason for it.

9. Enforcement

9.1 This policy is enforced by the Head of Not Listening or, while that seat is open, by all 41 employees individually. Determinations under it are final and are not explained.

9.2 A first violation results in a documented conversation. The document is one line long.

9.3 A second violation results in reassignment to the vault: one desk, underground in Bakersfield, next to the storage array, for a term set at the time of reassignment.

9.4 There is no third violation. Employees who reach the vault do not describe screams, and the array is loud enough that they could not be heard doing it.

9.5 Users cannot violate this policy in a way that affects their access. The record button is not a privilege that can be withdrawn. It is the product.

10. Review and effect

10.1 This policy is reviewed annually. The review is scheduled for a Friday. Each review is recorded as complete.

10.2 Amendments take effect when they are made and are published afterward.

10.3 This is Version 6.0, effective March 3, 2026. It supersedes Version 5.2, which was read aloud at an all hands and is therefore void.

10.4 Questions about this policy may be directed to the General Counsel. That role is open.

10.5 Silence constitutes acceptance. So does everything else.
